AG Ambassador Contest at Montana Winter Fair

Ag Ambassador: New Winter Fair Competition Encourages Youth to Tell the Story of Agriculture

The Montana Winter Fair is excited to announce the addition of a new youth competition for 2020. High school students from across Montana are encouraged to showcase their communication skills through the Ag Ambassador competition, held Saturday, January 25th at the fairgrounds in Lewistown, beginning at 8 am.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be awarded $1,000, $500, and $250, respectively. Registration is free, and can be found online at tinyurl.com/yx2wl25n. Registration is due by January 10th.

The purpose of the Ag Ambassador event is to tell the story of agriculture through a variety of mediums, and help students sharpen their communication, marketing, and public speaking skills. Each year, the competition will focus on a central idea, and students will create their communication materials around that topic. For 2020, the focus is The Economic Impact of Ag in Your Community.

To participate, students will write a newspaper article (500-800 words); record a radio spot (25-30 seconds); create 3 social media posts (each 25 words or less with a picture or video included) and a brief marketing plan; a mock TV interview; a prepared speech (7-12 minutes); and a visual display that includes their article, social media posts/marketing plan, and other photos. Participants are encouraged to share and research stories from their home communities, so we can showcase the diversity of agriculture across Montana.

The TV interview, prepared speech, and visual display will be evaluated on site during the contest. Newspaper, radio, and social media materials need to be sent in ahead of time to emily.standley1@montana.edu by January 20th. For more details, visit MontanaWinterFair.com or send questions to the email address listed above.

No entry fee, win up to $1,000 in prize money.
