Dr. Clain Jones, MSU Extension’s soil fertility specialist, will help you determine fertilizer rates based on soil test reports, review nutrient cycling processes, and discuss fertilizer source, placement, and timing for increased yields and soil quality. He will be available to answer any of your soil fertility questions.

Farm Service Agency Topics

Liz Bradshaw and Karen Boyles, from the Fergus Petroleum FSA office, will discuss the recent Farm Bill, information about the Livestock Indemnity Program, and updates on FSA Farm Loan programs.

The Farm Forum at the 75th Montana Winter Fair is packed full of practical information for farmers, ranchers, and anyone else interested in agriculture. This two-day event is free to attend, open to all, and will be held in the Eagles Club Grand Hall.

The event kicks off on Thursday, January 23rd. From 10am to noon, Dr. Clain Jones, MSU Extension’s Soil Fertility Specialist, will focus on soil nutrient management, and help you determine fertilizer rates based on soil test reports, review nutrient cycling processes, and discuss fertilizer source, placement, and timing for increased yields and soil quality. This two-hour session is a great opportunity to bring any of your soil fertility questions to an expert. While Dr. Jones will focus mainly on crops and forage, this session will include great information for home gardeners too. If you’ve ever wondered how to make your fertilizer applications more efficient, you won’t want to miss this presentation!

At noon, a free lunch will be provided. Then, from 1pm-3pm, Liz Bradshaw and Karen Boyles, from the Fergus Petroleum Farm Service Agency office, will discuss the recent Farm Bill, information about the Livestock Indemnity Program, and updates on FSA Farm Loan programs. As we move into the heart of winter, and a new production year, this is a great opportunity to learn about available local resources and have your questions answered.
