Unprotected Wildlands with Andrew McKean

Join us in celebrating eastern and central Montana’s remarkable public lands with Andrew McKean, editor of Outdoor Life magazine.

McKean, a Glasgow resident and avid backcountry hunter, will share stories and photos of the wild public lands he knows so well, along with his experiences living in eastern Montana and the challenges facing conservation in this part of the state.

Many tracts of public land beloved by hunters in eastern and central Montana are unprotected or under-protected, leaving the very qualities we cherish about these landscapes in jeopardy.

One of the biggest threats facing these areas is oil and gas leasing under the outdated, industry-favoring federal oil and gas leasing program – specifically the practices that allow for speculative leasing by private industries on our public lands.

McKean will discuss the threats posed by these leasing programs and opportunities to increase protection for Montana’s prairie wildlands.

Please join us in the town nearest you. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the presentation taking place 7 - 8 p.m.

On Feb. 14, the BLM released a management plan for the Lewistown Field Office resource area that would open 95% of some of the wildest and most revered public lands in central Montana to oil and gas development. It also released a draft of a management plan that offers little to no conservation measures for public lands the BLM manages in western Montana.
